My 5 WORST Moments in Comedy

5. I was at Soho Coffee House performing at an open mic night, and per usual I was bombing (it’s very hard to get laughs when most people are staring at their laptops and praying for you to shut your filthy, unfunny mouth). I was making fun of Jesus (a staple in my act) or some other aspect of religion which I find stupid and out of date when out of nowhere I started getting yelled at (leave it to a religious nut to get offended by someone making fun of their Savior. WWJD?). He was attacking me verbally and telling me point blank, “You’re not funny. Nothing you’ve said has been funny.” Despite it being true, it was still hurtful. So we went back and forth, back and forth until I absolutely lost my cool and started to yell at him. “Who do you think you are, go to hell you stupid sack of shit…” This went on and on. Then I decided to go big and lay the hammer down by saying, “Dude, you should have been an abortion. What a waste you are.” That was when he charged the stage and challenged me to fight. I was scared but excited because there were 20 other comics and I’m fairly confident they’d have stepped in. By this time most people had looked up from their laptops and were fully engaged in the accidental drama scene that erupted during a shitty comedy show. Feeling defeated I walked outside to smoke a cigarette and was hailed as a hero by the employees of the coffee shop. The staff had been trying to find a way to kick that guy out of their establishment, but didn’t have anything that stuck. This stuck and after that I always had the respect of the employees that worked in there and got free coffee quite frequently, not to mention all of the cigarettes I could bum.

I cooked dinner for Jay’s grandmother, Nanny last week and wanted something flavorful but not tooooooo crazy.  This won, and Nanny has banned Jay from cooking at her house ever again or from being her grandson.  She’s fully adopted me and ditched him.

Not really, but she liked it a lot which made me happy because I like her and want her to like me.  I think it worked.

There are a few redeeming qualities of this dish:

  1. I’m pretty sure it’s Jay’s favorite that I make.   Jay?
  2. It’s one of my favorites.
  3. It’s healthy.
  4. It’s foreign.

Especially this time of year, there is nothing better than a spicy, tomato-based seafood dish with some veggies for a light dinner.  This sauce is great and can be used with whatever veggies you have on hand, so make this tonight!

Last night Jay said he’d text me before he went to bed so I’d rest assured that as he was surrounded by throngs of beautiful naked women and illegal drugs that at least he was thinking of me.

He didn’t text me.

This was the first thing I saw this morning in my inbox.  I completely forgot to bit*h at him for not texting me last night.

He’s clever like that.

Spy Girl 2011

Happy Monday!  Here’s another story about a crazy person.

You remember those spy movies where the sexy woman seduces the man by getting him drunk, being a gorgeous cock tease, and then extracts some critical piece of information from him? Lindsay attempted to do this to me on Friday night. I got drunk, passed out early and she stayed up reading Food Network Magazine and reading all of the text messages in my kick ass iPhone. I know, sounds like I’m dating a crazy person, right? Well, I guess you’re right…she’s a little nutter. Now, I think some men would be upset by the fact that their distrusting girlfriend searched their kick ass iPhone for evidence that will destroy their relationship. I understand that reaction. I mean, what if I had been cheating on her? I would have been SUPER pissed if I had been cheating on her. I mean, it takes a lot of skill and scheduling to coordinate two relationships, and for her to ruin it by not trusting me; well that’s just hurtful and I’d have to think long and hard about whether or not I want to be in a relationship with someone who is that distrustful. Am I right fellas? Or what if I was addicted to texting pictures of my genitals to strangers? I’m not, but what if I was? For her to rob me of the imaginary joy I get from texting strangers pictures of my weenie would be wrong. I can’t imagine her finding those pictures and supporting my recreational hobby of showing strangers my reproductive organs. Or what if I was a hit man for the Russian mob? She starts snooping around on this deadly assassin’s kick ass iPhone, and then the next thing you know she’s gone against the family and someone has to “disappear”. Then I would feel terrible about cutting the brake line on her car. So, once again her actions would have a very negative impact on my life. Ugh…the nerve of untrusting people.

Greek Chicken Bites

This has recently become one of my favorite ways to serve chicken, especially in the summer – Greek-style with tangy Tzatziki Sauce, which you can learn to make here.  The chicken and sauce go great with veggies or potatoes and are healthy yet flavorful.

Greek flavors are some of my favorites, and I love a whole meal that is lemony, oregano-ish, and honey-esque.  Lemon, honey, olive oil, garlic, and oregano are cornerstone flavors of Greek food and can be mixed and matched in a thousand ways to create different dishes!

Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki Sauce is delicious and amazing and versatile.  A traditional Greek/Turkish condiment, this version uses Greek Yogurt as the base.  I’ve had variations with sour cream and even feta cheese, but this is my favorite way to eat it.  I’d suggest pairing it with Greek chicken and veggies, but it can be used in gyros, thinned out on salads, or as a dip for your favorite pita.  It is tangy and healthy and flavorful – everything you want in a dip!  It’s also SO easy to make – let’s go for it!

An Easy Weeknight Dinner

Generally mid-week I start to plan for all the crap I’m going to cook and eat on the weekend, then I feel guilty and cook something healthy.  This is a great light sauce that can be used on anything, but I particularly love the mild flavors with fish.  If you don’t like fish you’re silly and missing out, but you could easily make this with any other protein of your choosing (not beef, that’d be too heavy) or just serve it directly over rice or noodles.  But try it with fish sometime!  You’ll love it.

Restaurant Review – Red Minnow

Asian Trout with 5-spice seasoning and toasted sesame seeds.

The Red Minnow is a hidden gem in Central, SC. Seriously, it’s almost out of sight from the road because it sits down in a little depressed piece of property with trees protecting the perimeter. It is a little old house that has been converted into a quaint supper club. From the outside décor to the inside décor, the feeling you get is rustic. Exposed beams, stone walk ways and fur pelts adorn the walls. I liked it immediately. I hate hunting, but something on my Dude DNA really lights up when I see a place that has taken interior design tips from Daniel Boone.

If you haven’t worked out in the past few um, hours, you might want to hop on the treadmill and get some cardio in before you read the rest of this.  This mac and cheese is really really good..for your soul.

For your butt?  Not so much, unless your boyfriend is Sir Mix-a-lot.

Anyways.
