See this bowl?  It used to be filled with pretty, lovely decorative balls that served no purpose whatsoever other than to look good.

That’s a purpose.

Where did the balls GO, you ask?

Ah, yes.  The corner of the living room where the dogs sit and stare at us while we eat and drink heavily and watch 6 hours of TV per day.

I’m not mad.  I know that I can’t teach a dog why two things of the same shape and size are “different,” so I just laughed.

Then, one day, all the balls were back in the bowl.

I guess even my dogs think I’m a boring decorator.
