Do you order salads all the time at restaurants?
I totally do.
I really like the kind that has lettuce, carrots, croutons, tomato, cheddar, and ranch.
It’s so…American and steakhousy.
BUT, I also like salads that are a weeeeee bit fancier, like this one!
So, here’s my version of a house salad. It’s easy and you can mix and match your toppings to create your own combinations!
Here’s what you need:
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- mixed greens
- nuts of your choice
- pork product of your choice (bacon, pancetta, prosciutto….sky’s the limit!)
Obviously you could add cheese, other veggies, or use a pre-made dressing, but these ingredients are just so….GREAT.
I first toast the pork, prosciutto in this case, in little bits until it’s nice and crispy.
Then I use the same pan to toast the nuts!
Once the nuts are cool I chop them roughly.
Onto a plate goes a nice mound of greens…
….followed by a nice squeeze of lemon juice.
Then, top the whole thing with salt and pepper….
…and drizzle everything with olive oil!
Lastly, sprinkle on lots of nuts and pork and…..that’s it.
Not overly creative, but DAMN IT if these flavors aren’t perfect together every time. You’ll love this!
