Not really, I’m just whiny.
The REAL reason that today is so happy is that it’s my mom’s birthday!
She’s turning 18 more than 32.
37 less than 87.
She’s young, is what I’m saying.
Anyway. You can call her Mama. She’s pretty great. She’s a writer, and a really funny one at that.
One of her most important recent accolades is being selected TWICE THIS YEAR for submissions made by her loving children to www.whenparentstext.com
She’s real young, folks.
Unfortunately, I just got a new phone so I don’t have any choice texts to share with you, but I CAN share that she knows the hip, edgy, term-of-agreement “word,” and uses it very appropriately on Facebook all the time. She totally gets it. She’s hip AND edgy.
She’s super beneficial at giving medical advice too. Just last week, she said “um, eat something before you drive home. then you can drink as much as you’d like!”
Word. Sign me up.
She weighs approximately zero pounds (not enough to legally give blood), so I spend a majority of our time together trying to get her to 1. drink wine and say funny things or 2. feed her things.
Here are some of her favorites!
Homegirl is really big on thai flavors – I think it’s because she likes citrus and coconut milk. Thai curry is almost always on her list of fav dinners!
And hummus. The woman taught me to make it. I vividly remember eating hummus as a SMALL child. She makes it better than anyone!
She’s a grapefruit fan, too, so I think that as winter approaches this roasted grapefruit would be perfect for her!
The best thing about our mama, however, is that she always….
…..likes to give her best life lessons when there is a camera around.
And for that, I am endlessly entertained.
I love you Mama! Happy 19th birthday. Thanks for birthing me. And being great. And putting up with us.
