We discussed this morning how there are, like, so many delicious appetizers that are perfect for tailgating but mayyyyyyyybe not the healthiest choices to make if you want to be tiny or healthy or feel good or anything dumb like that.
IF you’re in that category of folks FEAR NOT, there are options in your food-camp as well.
There are yummy HEALTHY options that you can contribute to any football watching, snack eating extravaganza.
Let’s see what I’m talking about, mmkay? Click on the recipe title for the original post and recipe, and GET COOKING!
I’m drooling again. Dang it.
Duh. This one is such a no-brainer. It’s got fiber, protein, tons of veggies, and hardly any fat. PLUS, you could serve it with toasted tortillas or baked chips for even lighter dippers. GENIUS. And, it’s delicious!
These aren’t exaaaactly low in salt (like, at all), but they have good fats and protein and aren’t fried. Which is kind of the dream since we all need some fat and protein that isn’t fried in our lives. They’re also delicious and can be made way in advance, which doesn’t hurt one bit.
There are currently three variations of hummus on the Recipes page, but this one is the lightest and most unique. The flavors from the mint and garlic, and the lightness of the edamame…..omg I need this in my life all the time. Anyone you share it will love it too – think of how much better for you this is than some mayo-based chip dip!
Duh. It’s football, so you’ve GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA have something that includes hot sauce, right? This is baked, not fried, and has a secret ingredient that allows you to hardly use any butter in the sauce. Serve it with veggies, and you have a great excuse to eat the whole dang pan!
Duh again, right? We need more veggies that trick us into thinking they’re chips. Sometimes carrots and celery just don’t hack it, I’m afraid. These are ridiculously easy and you can prep the kale in advance, then just make batches of chips as they get eaten – no fuss required. If you’re feeling extra fancy you could grate some parm and lemon zest over these. You’re welcome for THAT gem.
There are tons of ways to make tailgating fun but not feel like crap the next day, and these are some of my favorites. What have you tried? What’s your favorite?
IS IT SATURDAY YET?
