You guys kind of went nuts with these Sloppy Joes I made a few weeks ago, and, that makes me happy. Because I did to so….we’re bff! Thank G.
I’ve made the mixture a few times since I showed you this recipe, and I CAN’T get enough. You can do anything with it! The flavor lends itself to, um, ANYTHING, so I think we should play around with how dang good this stuff is. I love the rich beefy flavor that comes from the oyster sauce and other ingredients, and I tend to go a little nuts with hot sauce so….just YES.
Since today is Thursday and Thursday just kind of…needs…ground beef, here are some things you could do with the mixture if you aren’t feeling sloppy joes.
- Quesadillas! Yep. Layer some white melting cheese with the ground beef in between two tortillas with a sprinkle of sliced green onions and cilantro if you like. Grill on both sides in a frying pan, or bake at 400F until bubbly and browned on both sides. Serve with a mixture of 1/2 sour cream 1/2 sriracha. I would eat this every day if it had zero calories.
- Beef + Broccoli. Double the “sauce” ingredients from the original recipe, and add broccoli florets to the beef. Serve over rice.
- Pasta. Stir fry some onions and zucchini in soy sauce like I do here. Toss beef and veg with some cooked spaghetti or other long pasta and top with green onions.
- PUT IT IN A BAKED POTATO. Because why not?
Here’s the original recipe:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sriracha, plus more to taste
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce, plus more to taste
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 scallion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup thinly sliced lettuce
- cilantro leaves, optional
- hamburger or other sandwich buns for serving
- Heat a skillet to medium-high heat with the beef. Cook for 5 - 7 minutes, breaking the meat up as it cooks until crumbly and browned. When the meat is mostly cooked, add the hoisin, oyster sauce, and sriracha. Stir to combine, and add the water to form a sauce. Taste the meat, and add soy sauce 1 teaspoon at a time to your taste. Add some more sriracha too, if you'd like. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and let the meat simmer for 5-10 minutes until the water is partially reduced and the meat is cooked through.
- Meanwhile, broil the buns on the cut side until lightly toasted.
- To serve, pile some lettuce on the bun bottoms. Top with some of the meat mixture, sliced green onions, and cilantro leaves. Add extra sriracha over the meat if you'd like. Top with a bun top, and enjoy!
