But what am I if not loose with words, eh?
You know the shtick. I work for a company called Varsity Vocals that puts on a tournament at the high school and college levels for a cappella groups. I run our South region, and have for many years, and absolutely love it.
It’s why I travel so much this time of year, it’s why I’m going to NYC today, the whole raison d’aitre slash raison that my house is so dirty right now…you get it.
And this year they’re making a tv show about our show! The Pitch Perfect movies are the film version of the tournament, and after THAT success a reality show came to being. This has actually been an idea for years and years – we’ve had multiple TV crews at shows, but nothing has ever come to fruition. Until now!
Our show, Sing it On, will air on POP TV (formerly TV guide channel, you probably have it), on May 13, and 2 of my shows were filmed for the series! I have zero clue if you’ll see ME in it at all, and if you do I’ll probably be racing around in the background. The show has NOTHING to do with me, it’s all about the kids and the hard work they put into the competition every year, and how much we love them for it.
Finals for the high schoolers is tomorrow, and the college kids go on Saturday, and it’s just going to be the BEST weekend. It’s interesting to be part of this tiny little community that expanding thanks to a movie and John Legend and some heavy-hitters developing out of this little tournament we love so much. Varsity Vocals itself has been around for over 15 years, and it’s FINALLY getting some recognition for the dedication our students show to this fabulous competition. It’s an exciting time!
And also I’ll probably wear shoes that are too high tomorrow and fall and be on TV doing that. Because it’s all about me.
