Guys, it’s the last day of the year. Can you even believe it? It seems like five seconds ago that we were welcoming our neighbor’s baby into the world and having a really quiet little NYE at our place with food and friends this time last year. This year we’re a family of THREE, we’re having an even more quiet NYE, and it’s been just the best year. Also, as of about 6 weeks ago I was still writing 2014 on hospital forms, so let’s see how long it takes 2016 to sink in! Probably until 2020.

Here are some of my favorite memories of 2015:
- January – started the new year off RIGHT with this vegetarian Power Cobb Salad + Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette. And am currently resolving to make this again asap.
- February – Spent the majority of the month traveling for my a cappella side job, but managed to make this Loaded Baked Potato Soup in between trips. It turned out to be one of the most popular recipes I made all year, and for good reason – it’s freakin’ delicious.
- March– Got a tattoo! I love it more every day and want to get a few more smaller cranes going down my arm. Then, Jay came to Florida with me (where I was going for a show) as a surprise for my 29th birthday. Bigger surprise: Getting pregnant on said trip.
- April – Found out I was pregnant the day we got home from NYC. After having slept 3 hours and almost puking on the plane because I was “hungover.” We came home and took showers because EW PLANES and I will never in my life forget sitting on the bed in our underwear kind of staring at each other and the THREE positive pregnancy tests (I wanted to be…sure) and then getting weepy but not in a good or a bad way and then taking a 3 hour nap and waking up and kind of not believing it. And then we kept it a secret for many more weeks from almost everyone.
- May – Saw my sister’s elementary school musical and wrote a little bit about it on this here blog. I was pretty pleased with myself about this one.
- June – Told the internets that baby was on her way. Then started writing all about pregnancy, which was great fun.
- July – Jay broke his leg. In 3 places. Out of town. On the first day of vacation. We also found out that Beck was (is!) a girl, and spent most of the following weeks figuring out how to operate with one pregnant adult and one crippled adult, while thanking our lucky stars for insurance and also cursing a system that allows a bill of $65,000 for one night in a hospital. SERIOUSLY.
- August – Got Jay home from the beach after 2 weeks in 1 house, and tried to enjoy the rest of the summer. Goat Cheese Squash Turnovers helped immensely.
- September – With Jay settled in and healing nicely, I started to feel more pregnant – in the first 5 or 6 months we just had more pressing things to focus on. I also got way hungrier and started to gain weight a little faster, which worked well for the sour cream guac that my BFF Heather invented. It’s still one of my favorite snacks of the year!
- October – We took our birth class and Jay got the confidence to start saying things like “yep, baby needs a deep wide latch to avoid trauma to the nipple” in public. That was special for us all. We absolutely loved birth class and all the prep we did for baby – so much to learn!
- November – Jay turned 35, I stopped teaching yoga, and this samosa pie made me not resent Jay for being a vegetarian. Because pastry.
- December – I mean….we know what the highlight of this month was, yes? The baby. Who came out of my body fast and furious and howling with no medicine and not much time to get to the birth center and is just a ball of love and snuggles and cuteness.
Here’s to another year in the books! I have a feeling 2016 will be even better.
