I capitalized Is and The because it’s THAT important.

Jay starts a new job today! I can’t believe it.
Obviously because of the sensitivity of job hunting it’s not something I have been able to talk about here, but I’ll start with: Jay has been job hunting for a year and a half. A YEAR AND A HALF. So many cover letters, interviews, inquiries, we-love-you-but-went-internally’s, THREE job offers, and finally one that stuck.
It was long and hard and gross sometimes, to say the least.
You see, Jay’s old job was not him. It was a cubicle mostly-phone-calls “sales” job, with very few promotion options, an environment that just didn’t suit his personality. In addition, we had to front the money every time he traveled, which was just painful and unnecessary for a massive company to do to their people. But that’s a side note. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jay more light as he was a few weeks ago when he put in his notice at his old job. It was a sight to behold.
And now here we are. A better situation, outside sales and work-from-home, hardly any travel (just a time or 2 per year compared to a time or 2 a MONTH), appropriate compensation and benefits, and support and training that make sense for the position. He’s so excited, and also he painted our office in the few days he had off between jobs, so everyone wins.
The thing about my husband is that he just does his best all the time, so a new job isn’t this huge new thing, it’s not as if he’s been lying around for all this time feeling sorry for himself. He quit his last job exactly 2 weeks ago, and when he was released from that job a tiny bit early he used the extra time to work on our house and hang out with Beck so I could work more. If that isn’t the definition of sacrificial I don’t know what is. “Here, let me work harder on the house and also keep the baby so you can work more while I get ready to work harder at a new job.” He’s 1,938% in, this one is.
Congrats to you, Hastings! I’m so proud and also will be happy to quit my job to stay at home and eat candy all day, which is basically all I do anyway.
