I went to a famous person’s restaurant!

I’m pretty sure it was my first one. Set table

Allow me to introduce you to Marc Murphy‘s Landmarc (the one in the Time Warner Building).  I went a few months ago when I was in New York for music work I do.  I didn’t know where we were going in advance, just had a name and address in my inbox and told the cab where I needed to be.

Then, THREE MONTHS LATER, I realized one of my favorite CHOPPED judges owned the place.

Whatever, I’m slow.

We have a new restaurant in Greenville!

Did you know that Greenville has the most restaurants per capita of any city our size?Lindsay's tacos

Someone told me that, and I have no clue if it’s true or not.  Will you look it up and get back to me?

THANKS.

So, Gringos.  I’ve been thrice (yes), and I have to say….

Ginger Chicken

03 Monday Jun 2013

It’s a throwback Monday!

In high school, Ginger Chicken was on the menu a lot at school.  Big bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts simmered in this SAUCE that was incredible, with white rice to sop it all up.  It was $5 or something ridiculously affordable, especially for Tokyo.  Serve with hot rice

We loved it.  My friends and I loved when the chicken was available, and the other day, while thinking in my brain about what to do with some bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts, I thought about the chicken, which of course made me think about high school, which of course made me moderately weepy.

I’m a mess.  It’s ok.

But the chicken.  This is my version, and it’s really simple, and REALLY flavorful.  I made it for my parents on Saturday night, and the next morning at church my sweet daddy said that he looooved the sauce – which is a big deal 12 hours later from a man who KNOWS Asian food!

Guys.

This restaurant.

Bite of sandwich

I love it so much it hurts my heart sometimes.

Not really, but you know what I mean.  This is Nose Dive – a Gastropub.  It’s like…..affordable upscale bar food in a nice atmosphere with good service and fun drinks.

Also wine on TAP, so you know I’m in for that.

 Oh, this place.

Jay and I ate here when we were in Baltimore a few months ago for work, and we met my college roommate, Jenny here.  Hi Jenny!  This place came to us as a recommendation from another work friend, who, to be fair, had never been there.Chips

First, our experience was decent because we were with an old friend and drinking margaritas.

If those two things had not been in place, though….meh, at best.  The interwebz seems to agree with me – this isn’t the worst place on earth, but I definitely didn’t feel great the morning after eating here.  Yuck.

I told you we went to NYC few weeks ago, and then I didn’t show you any pictures from the experience.Tree in city

Are we still friends?

I mean, really.  So dumb.

It was so great.  It was really short and we were Really tired and Jay left straight from the city to go to California for a week so we were REALLY stressed, but it WAS SO GREAT.

I love New York.  In a big fat wish-I-could-live-there way.

Restaurant Review – Gyu-Kaku NYC

Oh guys.

I waited to tell you about this because the pictures just made me so wistful for everything about this place.

Pretty place setting

This is Gyu-Kaku, a Korean BBQ chain that calls itself a Japanese BBQ chain that has a location 2 blocks from where we stayed a few weeks ago.

In Japan, this style of eating is called Korean BBQ.  In America, it’s called Japanese.  I with I knew why, really.  I think maybe something to do with politics?  Really and truly – the owner of the sushi restaurant I used to work at told me one time that so many Chinese restaurants have Tokyo/Japan/Hibachi in the name because Americans currently are more favorable towards Japan compared to other Asian countries.

Fascinating?  Boring?  Wrong?  We can all make up our own minds about that.

You’ve heard me talk a ton about how I work for the company that Pitch Perfect was made about, yes?

Have you seen that movie?

Know how in the movie the final competition is in New York?

That’s today, people.  The real one.

I’m in NYC for the show, and to eat everything.  It’s one of my favorite trips of the year – a trip that’s followed by an EXHALE that I sort of get my weekends back.  Not this summer but…some years it happens.

It’s complex, is what I’m saying.

I ate at this place.

It was slightly controversial – I loved parts of it, I didn’t love parts of it, and the interwebz seems to agree with me.

Rare steak

Ellendale’s in Nashville is not for everyone – that is what I have deduced from my experience there.

Restaurant Review – Mac’s Speedshop

We super duper like this place.

Mac’s Speedshop – the non-naked-waitress’s answer to Hooters.

Chopper with Chicken

Or something.

It’s a biker bar, but one that people go to after church with their children to drink sweet tea.  Kind of like how people take whole soccer teams to Hooters, which has baffled me for years.

See the similarity?  Maybe not.
