Guys.

This restaurant.

Bite of sandwich

I love it so much it hurts my heart sometimes.

Not really, but you know what I mean.  This is Nose Dive – a Gastropub.  It’s like…..affordable upscale bar food in a nice atmosphere with good service and fun drinks.

Also wine on TAP, so you know I’m in for that.

Bloody MaryWelp.  It happened.  We ate somewhere so disappointing that I had to write a bad review.

I mean, I guess I didn’t have to.  But I am anyway.  It just….wasn’t good.

First, a little history.  This little space has been several different things over the years.  It’s right on Main Street downtown among several restaurants, but for some reason NOTHING can stay open in this place.

For one, it’s dingy.  Old and in serious need of a remodel, I was SO EXCITED when I saw a new name on the outside of this place!  Greenville has more restaurants per person than any other city of our size, and somehow Jay and I always feel like we end up going back to the same places over and over again.

This is likely because we are poor.

MartiniWhen we decided to get married, we also decided that we should eat a $200 dinner and pretend we were those type of people who could, like, totally spend $200 on a meal and not think twice about it.

Not really, but that’s what happened anyways.

High Cotton in Greenville, SC, is wonderful.  REALLY wonderful.  We’ve been there several times for different occasions, and I don’t think we’ve EVER had anything we don’t like.

Over Labor Day weekend we went to Boone, NC with some friends Jay knows from his old life in DC.  We had a blast, we ate, we drank, we cooked, and we heard lots of stories about what a terrible comedian Jay was.

More on that later, though.

Also while we were there, our friends requested that we find a great BBQ place since there aren’t tons of great places to get pulled pork where they live.

Or, any, according to them.

So, we found this place.  Bandana’s Bar B Que and Grill.

See?

I was very clear that there are all sorts of things you can do with Goat Cheese Cream.  This is one of them!

It’s called a concrete example, folks.

So, a few weeks ago Jay had to work late on a Friday because he works at a college and when the students are back to school it only makes sense that the staff stay late every night and feed them free pizza while pimping out their respective organizations and activities, right?

Right.

So, homeboy was late, and I was bored, so I mad a gazillion course steak dinner.

We’ll get to the actual dinner tomorrow.

This is what we had for an appetizer though!

I’m putting this under the entertaining category, because this is dang good, kids.

It’s also easy – easy enough for a weeknight!

It’s also vegetarian, which apparently is good for our bodies and the earth and our wallets.

Whatever.  I love me some beef, but we all know that I’m a big tofu girl too!

House Salad

Greetings, people.

Do you order salads all the time at restaurants?

I totally do.

I really like the kind that has lettuce, carrots, croutons, tomato, cheddar, and ranch.

It’s so…American and steakhousy.

BUT, I also like salads that are a weeeeee bit fancier, like this one!

So, here’s my version of a house salad.  It’s easy and you can mix and match your toppings to create your own combinations!

Chile Relleno, Restaurant-style

I love Mexican food.  We’ve talked about this, but I’m not sure if I ever told you that my most favoritest thing to order at a Mexican restaurant is chile relleno.  I really like how the pepper gets cooked to death and is filled with processed cheese and overcooked ground beef.

I’m not joking.  I really do like those qualities in certain foods.

So, that’s me.

Then, one day, my sister Julianne left some super duper processed queso in our fridge after housesitting.  I don’t BUY that stuff, even though I love it, but clearly I wasn’t going to let it go to waste.

Also, I had some random ground beef in the fridge that had already been cooked and the fat had congealed and it smelled like cat food.  I couldn’t wait to eat it.

Hence, a restaurant-style gloppy chile relleno was born.

And eaten.

And loved.

YUM.

GLORY, do we ever recommend this restaurant.

A few months ago, while travelling to Athens, GA for the a cappella production work I do, we needed a sweet brunch spot.  Some friends recommended this little place, Last Resort Grill.  What a treat!  In a town like Athens with SO many restaurants, you can never be exactly sure if you’re heading into a tried and true place that will stick around for a while because of it’s food, or if something is “recommended” because, to be frank, it’s affordable to college kids.

Luckily for us, LRG fell in the former category.

Restaurant Review – Amici Cafe

Lindsay and I were in Athens, Georgia back in February for an a cappella tournament that she produces. We arrived a day early in order to see the Beatles cover band Abbey Road Live. If you don’t open your eyes, it’s very similar to listening to The Beatles. However, if you open your eyes you’ll find a John Lennon who looks like he might enjoy cocaine a bit too much, and a Paul McCartney that looks bored. I couldn’t really see Ringo and George.
