So, our friends Wes and Sangeeta have a house in the mountains, kind of near where we’re getting married.

It’s close to where we live, but 10 degrees cooler, totally isolated, and totally mountainous.  Duh.Meatballs and pita

We went there last weekend!

I made dinner one night, and part of the dinner was these meatballs.  They’re lamb.  They taste like a gyro.  Or the middle east. Or something slightly foreign but SO flavorful and delicious and you want to eat 1,000 of them.

You know foods like that, right?

Oh man.

I’ve been waiting, like, forever to tell you about these.

Top with cilantro if you like

Ok so two weeks, but whatever.

I’m pretty sure I told you a few weeks ago that my friend over at Struggling Home Brewer was gifted some incredibly high quality short ribs.  He asked me to cook them, so I did.

Interestingly, said short ribs were gifted in their original form.

Not short.  Connected, as they would be on a cow.  I didn’t know this when I went to pick them up, and finding a butcher that would hack into something who’s origin they knew nothing about was somewhat of a challenge.

Imagine that conversation, please?  It was ridiculous.

Yep.

I caved to Pinterest.

Not really, actually, but I HAD been seeing people post and post and post about pull-apart breads, both sweet and savory.  I was a little intrigued, but I don’t really do anything with bread. Even ready-made stuff…I don’t know why.  I’ll think of why sometime.

But, when I asked on Facebook last week what new tailgating recipes I should test, my friend Sarah suggested a pull-apart bread!

I was in.

Well, I was in mainly because I made something to dip bread in, and I wanted a SPECIAL bread for it.  I’ll tell you about the dip tomorrow, but be aware that it contains lots of hot sauce and looks like this.

Zing.

In honor of our friend Rory and his pretty fiance Jordan coming into town tomorrow for a show (he’s pretty famous.  you should know who he is), I totally need to tell you about the last time we went to see him perform in Charlotte and ate at this weird little grocery-store-deli-bar place for brunch.

It was weird.

But great.

But totally weird.

We ate at The Common Market in Charlotte, NC, and it was totally the type of place my partially hippi-fied manfriend loves to check out.

Wedding Weekend

No, not us you sillycakes. We don’t have time for that.

No but really, we don’t.

My friend Victoria is getting married today, and we’re catering some of the food!

It’s our first wedding, and we’re a leeeetle bit excited.

Our fridge, however, is thrilled to be losing 40 lbs of pork-weight.  It’s a freeing feeling.   I’m looking into creating a method for humans to do that while still actually eating pork.  I’ll keep you posted on that!

Anyway. Today, we’re serving a lovely array of food.

We’re doing sliced steak with chimichurri, but with CILANTRO-PARSLEY CHIMICHURRI instead of sage.  There are so many great ways to make chimichurri!

We’re also doing a smoked salmon display with lemon, capers, red onion, goat cheese, and GARLIC CHIVE CREAM CHEESE.  Shut up.  I’ll show you how as soon as I recover and get my a** back on the computer next week.

Finally, in regards to all that pork, we’re making pulled pork sliders with peach salsa – remember those from the last wedding shower we catered?  So easy, so delicious, and so addictive.  Barbecue is super duper popular in these parts, and these are little spruced up BBQ sandwiches!

I’m so excited for tonight.  Victoria and Jason have been together for a long time, are getting married on the lake, and lots of my friends are going to be there.  Couple that with the fact that I’ve been planning this or 2 months and cooking for 3 days?

Heavenly. I’m in heaven.

Folks.

There are a few things in this life that I don’t understand.

One of them is why some people don’t eat more.

The other is why it’s hard to give people money.

Happy Friday!

We would like to take this opportunity to ask you to turn on your dang TVs tonight (if you’re in the US) and watch our friend Rory Scovel on Comedy Central!

He has a whole 30 minutes to air his and his family’s dirty laundry on national television while throwing in a few rape jokes, and we couldn’t be prouder.

This weekend our small city in South Carolina had it’s annual food/wine/entertainment festival, Fall for Greenville.  It’s a great event that lasts all weekend, and we were lucky to go all three days!  The food, rides, drinks, bands, and PEOPLE were fabulous to entertain and observe (people watching after several beers with a comedian?  Not too shabby), and we can’t wait for next year!
