Guys.
I have talked so.much. about how I got a new camera this year, and it has changed so much on this website, in freelance work I do, and just in for-fun pictures that I can take so much more easily with a camera that takes such great pictures. My last camera was old, tired, and needed a lot of coaxing and perfect light to produce anything close to great images.
Now, though. Sweet bliss of the camera working with the situation doesn’t even begin to describe it.
So! Here are the things that I use day in and day out for pictures. I’m lucky to have a pretty cute little model who basically hates having her picture taken, but ok. I have a Canon 6d Mark II that I waited foreverrrrrrr to come out, the last version of the 6d was great but this one has a swivel screen that is so useful for strange angles and I really wanted that feature + the updated processor and focus points.
I found this kit that came with two lenses (I bought a camera that was just the body, didn’t come with a lens). I use the 17-40mm zoom almost all the time, but LOVE the 50mm f1.4 for close up shots, super creamy backgrounds, and in darker situations because the wider aperture lets in more light while still keeping the image clear.
I use these wraps for my camera and lenses when I travel, and I love LOVE them because it means my stuff is protected in my actual bag and I don’t have to have a separate camera case, which is tricky on planes, etc.
My wish list for lenses includes the 100mm f2.8L (reasonable) and the 24-70mm f2.8L II (I will never have that much money), but right now I’m so happy with what I DO have that I get all excited every time I get to play around with new types of photography and settings, even when the results are medium. Having new + functional equipment makes it more fun to experiment.
So, if you know of anyone who is on the verge of good-to-great photography, this camera + a lens or two would be THE gift, although I have no one that spends this much money on me at any holiday so maybe a Best Buy gift card would be just as nice.
Camera stuff is super personal and everyone has an opinion on what the BEST stuff is, but for the money this set up is working SO well for me and I can’t recommend it enough. Also I wanted to show some funny pictures of Beck dicking around with the Christmas tree that kind of looked like it was her decorating, which we all know is the real camera magic.
The end.
