That's the best line of this article highlighting an interview by GAY COUNTRY SINGER Steve Grand, AKA my new best friend, AKA I wish I were a gay guy so I could hit on him, AKA the newest person I'm following on Twitter.
I wonder if he has Instagram!
Gay country singer. Just let it....marinate. Don't you think a few people are fuming about that right about now? Not the fact that ONE (right) exists, just that he's so...not in a closet wasting away.
It makes me smile.
He wrote a song. A really good country song. It HAPPENS to be about a guy liking another guy who turns out to be straight, and the longing you feel for someone you can't have.
In reality, it's a story that most of us experienced 5 times a week in middle school thanks to those gee dee hormon-ees. Or maybe just me? I've been boy crazy for quite some time now. I'm OK with it.
It's not a gay or straight thing, though, is it? It's a human thing. About love and the desire for someone to love you like you love them, the closeness knowing that someone else is yours can make you feel, and the angst you feel when you don't have that with someone you WANT IT WITH SO BAD ALL DAY EVERY DAY.
Not a gay thing, kids. Straight people have been singing this utterly pitiful tune for eons.
I love love. I love hearing love stories, listening to sappy songs, kissing Jay on the cheek just because, and watching certifiably shitty movies because witnessing that closeness in ANYONE, real or fictional, is beautiful to me. The fact that an entire subset of the population is regularly shunned from loving love too is baffling to me, but there seems to be a QUICKLY GROWING other subset of the population that agrees with me. Love isn't exclusive, it's inclusive. Those who try to make it otherwise are making their OWN souls more angsty. We don't need them.
That's my stance, for what it's worth. Check out Steve and his lovely song - it'll be on the radio any day now. I can feel it.
pictures from Steve's website, vid from YouTube. i hope he doesn't get mad.
